Records and Record Players?
March 5th, 2010 by adminOk, so I really want a vintage record player, and I;ve been looking on eBay for some. I know NOTHING about them. How come some records are big and some are small? Do all records play on all record players?
I want to know everything. I need a hobby, and this seems cool. I want to collect records. Tell me everything.
To me it depends how serious you are about collecting records.
Basically there’s two ways.
You can either buy an all in one player like these
http://www.jabw.demon.co.uk/faq9.htm
or seperates.Turntable, amp, speakers,etc.
If you’re buying an old player check if you can still get a replacement stylus (needle).
The records usually come in two sizes 7 inch or 12 inch.
Most records play at either 45 rpm or 33 rpm (the speed the player goes).Generally the smaller ones are 45s (singles) & the larger are 33rpm (albums, known as LPs in the record world). There are exceptions,
eg. some singles are released as 12 inch.
This should be of some help
