What is the model of this RCA record player/8 track/stereo?
October 27th, 2009 by adminMy grandpa owns a vintage RCA record player/8 track/stereo that I’m interested in owning and restoring one day. All I know about it is that it is in a black wooden case, has a red velvety cloth covering the speakers, is about 2.5 to 3 feet high and it opens from the top. He said it’s from about 1965-66. Can anyone tell me what the name of it might be? Like the model or whatever?
It’s hard to say. The model number on RCA sets is usually either on a paper sticker on the back of the console, or is rubber-stamped on the back. I can tell you this…If it’s black and has red velvety stuff over the speakers, it’s from the mid seventies. Eight track players did not become popular in consoles till the early seventies. RCA made hundreds of different stereo console models in the sixties through the early eighties. These old consoles can sound nice (LOTS of bass!) and they are usually easy to fix up.True audio fanatics hate them, but they have warm, rich sound that’s perfect for vintage vinyl.
