can i hook a record turntable up to my normal stereo and put it on aux and play it?
November 20th, 2009 by admini mean their must be something you can do rather than have to buy a tuner to hook it up to??? thanks!
It really depends on what kind of turntable you have. I have a pair of Stanton t80 laying around that have a line output so they can be plugged in anywhere. Most turntables however, do not output very high and thus need a phono preamp. You can buy these online at www.musiciansfriend.com
You should have told us what kind of turntable you have. Please be more thorough next time.

You have to buy a pre amp to connect to. Otherwise you will need to turn your volume way up to hear it.

If your stereo has a "phono" input, then yes you can, otherwise you need a phono preamp between your turntable and your stereo like one of these:

I’ve had good luck with TCC preamps – they’re clean and reasonably priced.
The signal level coming off the needle on your turntable is very low, and it’s also missing bass and highs that an preamp will restore.

Yes, but you want to connect it to the phono input
The TT emits a low level signal which the amplifier circuit in the stereo increases
The reason you want to use the phono input is because of impedance, if you don’t have a phono input use the tape input,it shouldn’t damage the circuit as it matches the impedance better than the aux input
