What are the different Record player speeds? And what speed would be the oldest?
December 16th, 2009 by adminI have an old thicker annie get your gun soundtrack record and I don’t know what type of record player I should get to play it.
I have an "Annie get your gun" soundtrack set.
there is one song per side on the records maybe about 6 records in the book. And the records are about, a little less then a 1/4" thick. Thanks for everyone’s help this is really helping. .. more advice would be great!
33 and a third and 45s.

33 RPM – recent history.
45 RPM – singles and a little older.
78 RPM – the speed of the first "licorice pizza."
Before that it was cylinders, and you won’t find those players around except maybe at antique shops and museums.
"Annie Get Your Gun" might be recent history.

It’s probably 78RPM if it’s real old. Records were made for 78, 45, 33&1/3 and 16&2/3 RPM. 78s are the real old ones, 45s were used for single songs, 33s were albums, and 16s were used for educational film strips.

45rpm, 33 1/3rpm and 78rpm.
78’s are the oldest type and this sounds like what you have. I believe you need a special type of needle, not player to play them, though. As long as it has the 78rpm setting you should be fine… oh, and as it’s *may* be made of shellac (as oppose to vinyl) it’ll be verrrrry fragile.
Enjoy!

the slowest was around 26 rpm.
