Just got a record player. The arm will not move when I turn it on. What am I doing wrong?
March 5th, 2010 by adminI got a sansui PL41 automatic record player. However, when I turn it on, the record will spin but the arm won’t move. It’s automatic/computerized and you can hear it doing something but the arm remains in its original position. Do I need to do something differently? Or do I need a new part? Thanks
This might sound a bit stupid, but have you unlocked the tonearm? And removed the transport locks after you bought it?
The arm should move when you press the "Auto" button – it will stay put when the platter is rotating though.

munkey is right. whether manual or automatic operation, the tone arm is a delicate part and is always shipped in a locked position to prevent damage. also in some players, the motor is suspended and is locked for safe transport. re-read the setup instructions again.
