How do I amplify the sound of my old record player?

March 8th, 2010 by admin

I have a very old record player, but when hooked up to my system, I have to have it on maximum volume just in order to hear it. It has a standard R and L speaker output. Is there a way to amplify the sound so I can really experience my record collection?? PLEASE HELP!!

Basically, a Record Deck does not produce the same level signal as a CD deck or any similar modern device eg. MP3 player, minidisc, DVD etc.
So, the signal needs a miniature amplifier before the main amp, called a pre-amplifier.

You need this, or similar:

or: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35941&doy=3m2&C=SO&U=strat15
to record to your PC, but this is very expensive!
you can buy USB record decks for the same price!
