1959 Magnavox record player

December 28th, 2009 by admin

My Grandparents bought this unit brand new in 1959. It got put out in storage when the Collaro Conquest changer(labeled Magnavox Custom)quit working. I got an identical parts Collaro off ebay, so made a good working one out of two machines. I cleaned the unit up, lubricated it, replaced the capacitors in the amp. It’s model AMP 185-11 Also I replaced the needle. It’s working great now. It also has the matching external speaker unit. It had a matching television, but it was gone before my time. It would be awesome to find another one some day. My Grandfather says it sounds just like it did when it was new.

awesome. i have the big daady version of this exact machine. meaning mine is a six speaker stereo model. it belonged to my great aunt who died this year at the age of 101. i love that machine. it screams and has tone from another planet. best part is it takes the same tubes as fender guitar amps. rock on

    It’s wonderful to …
It’s wonderful to see & hear your restored console. Such fine quality & true workmanship in these machines. In comparison, today’s stuff seems slapped together, and when a problem comes up it’s often cheaper to replace than repair.
