Record player/turntable needle lifespan and replacement?

October 21st, 2009 by admin

What is the general lifetime of a turntable’s needle in terms of hours it can be played before it needs replacement? I received an "Ion TTUSB05" usb turntable for Christmas, and a friend of mine has a "Victoria Classic" model ITC 50 MP3.

Also, does anyone know what kind of needle cartridge the "victoria classic" requires for replacement? I can’t seem to find it on the internet.

Hi,Jason. It depends on the shape of the tip and the tracking force. ( in grams). As a general rule if you play, say 1 LP record per day, (starting with a new needle),you should replace the stylus unit (needle) after approximately 2 years. 2 LP records per day and you should replace after approx.1 year.If you play 3 LP records a day you should replace the stylus unit after approx. 9 months.

EDIT….1 LP side = approx. 20 minutes, therefore you should replace the stylus unit after about 490 hours of playing time.

EDIT….Jason,i have looked everywhere for a replacement cartridge for the Victoria Classic , but there are no results .I have no idea which one it could be.
