How old is the oldest phonograph record that you have and what is the song & who is the artist?
January 29th, 2010 by adminAny Edison records out there?
Yes I have a bunch of old 78s that belong to my Mom.
They aren’t worth much I will most likely sell them to a collector.
I have RCA Victor, Edison, Varsity along with MGM, Columbia
I have one of John Phllip Sousa too
You can buy turntables again I bought a new one a couple of years ago for $99.99 it not only plays records but cassetts and has an am/fm radio.

The title of the album is "Sing Along With Mitch Miller & The Gang" Release date was 1958. The cover opened up with all the lyrics inside the cover to the songs on the vinyl. I remember when my aunt came over and we listened to it. She and I sang songs together. Simple fun in much simpler days, or so it seemed.
I have an Edison Lighthouse Album, "The Best of Edison Lighthouse," who sang, "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes," in the early 1970s, but then I doubt seriously if that is the ‘Edison,’ you are talking about, Gladys. lol

I have a lot of LP’s dating back to the late 50’s. Unfortunately, I gave all my 78’s & 45’s away long ago. But I have a wonderful Mitsubishi fully automatic linear turntable that u can’t find anywhere anymore.

The oldest I have is a recording my father made in 1935. It’s a 78. Still sounds good.
I also have some 78’s from my childhood. One is the "Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens with Ogden Nash and Noel Coward, another is some Christmas Carols, and Edith Piaf singing "La Vie en Rose". My parents played these when I was a kid in the 1950s. I have a 4-speed turntable to play them on.Good question.

I’m not sure—I’ve got Nat King Cole w/ Rammblin Rose—-my momma’s nickname/handle. I also have a couple of the Chuckwagon Gang’s records. I buy these old records ever once in a while and I enjoy listening to them. At a school auction last yr the teacher gave me an old record player that works just like NEW. I can find the old records in perfect condition at a store for 10 cents each.

I have some ’45s from the ’50s. I have Rock Around the Clock/Bill Haley and the Comets; King Of the Road/Roger Miller, and a couple of others. They are all originals. I have a couple of albums that are Mono; before stereo albums. I have the Beatles White Album still in it’s original wrapper, never opened.
My family had some Edisons, along with a wind up victrola but it’s all gone now.

Probably the 78s I have. I don’t know what they are because I have nothing to play them on.
Probably the oldest one I know is Roy Rogers and Dale Evans singing Open Up Your Heart and Let the Sunshine In. It’s on one of those little yellow colored 45s.

Probably " Love Letters In The Sand" by Pat Boone. Think my wife brought it into our marriage but I think it was her older brothers record since that LP was probably recorded before my wife was in 3rd grade.
Thanks for reminding me of this. I gotta get rid of those and hopefully make a couple bucks. Got a fair amount of 50’s, 60’s 45’s and LPs. I still have a turntable but I don’t think it works. I did get rid of the Eight track player though went cassettes came into use.

I do have a small record recorded from a booth at the top of the Empire State Bldg.,while on my Senior class trip in 1959. A bunch of us guys made it. I don’t know if it will still play as i don’t have a record player. But it is 50 years old.

Gladys, are you a collector?
I sold a big box of all my LPs in masse at a yard sale years ago. The guy was almost ecstatic when he grabbed them.
But even then, I did not have any ones that were that old.

When I was a teen, my folks bought an old Wurlitzer Juke Box — http://www.partydelights.co.uk/images/cutouts/CUTO012.JPG
It contained a whole collection of old 78’s.
There were probably several records that were older than these,
but these were two of my favorites. I played them SO many times!
(Not really THAT old … great music!)

I have an Edison record about 1/4 inch thick with a likeness of Edison on black. It does play even though scratchy. I have a WWI record called "Somewhere In France Is a Lily", a vocal. I have a brown paper record with a vocal group called The Harlem Hot Choclates singing St. James Infirmary and a very small picture record called "Strawberry Roan". I am thrilled to talk about old records and I go to the web sites for collectors once in a while. I also have some V-discs with many different orchestras and that plays at 16 2/3 rpm.

All my LP’s are gone, but I still have a box of 45’s from the 50’s and 60’s, don’t know which is the oldest. There are a lot of Elvis Presley ones in there.

No Edisons. My oldies are 45s – a few Elvis, Sam Cooke, etc – in a small record box cube I thought we threw on but its in the garage.
We still have a huge collection of 33 1/3 LPs and 2 turntabless – I still like the quality of the sound.

I have some 45’s…and I think "A THOUSAND STARS IN THE SKY" (Kathy Young) is the oldest:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvaTZXrGX…
There was this one girl in 8th grade(1960), Nancy, who would only dance with ME to this song at the Kiwanis teen dances on Friday nights in Milford, Delaware.
We never did date. I heard she died of breast cancer several years ago…2001 or 2002? (smiling at her memory now)
