Can you play modern LPs on vintage record players?

I know that may sound like a silly question, but I know nothing about record players and I’ve just inherited one dating from around the 1960s. Its in full working order and everything, I was just wondering if it would play modern vinyl?

Yes, just check the needle, up through the 1960’s some players came with a feature to switch between two different needles (without actually having to change the needle or cartridge), one for standard records and LPs, and a second for older 78 RPMs that worked better with a heavier, harder needle. If your player has the feature, it will be clearly marked and is simple to make the change, usually just by turning a knob. If you do not see ant such markings… no worries. Enjoy.

why is there a loud humming noise and woofers moving wierd while playing my turntable ?

my system consists of an akai magnetic cartridge turntable, sansui integrated 8 ohms amplifier with phono input & sonodyne 8 ohms matching woofers. while playing the tuuntable the woofers move weirdly and there is a loud background noise/hum even though the connections are all ok and the earthing wire is also connected to the amp. strangely the sound is alright when playing through my dvd or tv. i have checked all possibilities but can;t find the problem. please advice.

your rca’s may have gotton damaged,getting old or are just poor quality try upgrading to hi quality rca’s.

1957 RCA VICTOR ORTHOPHONIC HIGH FIDELITY RECORD PLAYER

Sweet 1957 RCA Victor “ORTHOPHONIC HIGH FIDELITY” record player in dark mahogany finish. Just got this today from my friend Tony. I cleaned her up, lubricated the changer, and buffed out the wood case with high gloss polish. Look at how beautiful she is! Also added a fresh Astatic 89T powerpoint cartridge with diamond stereo compatible needle. Just listen to the clarity of the highs and that deep base, especially when the lid is closed. Beautiful room-filling sound that the Orthophonic is so famous for!

Scarce VICTORY 45 RPM Record Player – Licensed RCA Model #45-EY-2 Clone – ALMOST!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF MY YouTube FRIENDS!! Here’s a fantastic piece from 1956! This model is called a “VICTORY” and there are NO model number markings anywhere. Based on my research, they didn’t have a model number. This is basically an RCA #45-EY-2 clone except the changer is a hammertone gray color w/maroon colored script, tonearm & selector. The amplifier is the standard 3-tube RCA amp. These are quite scarce and don’t often show up for sale. This one has (of course!) been 100% restored including new rubber throughout, new caps, 89T Astatic cartridge, cleaned-lubed-adjusted to perfection! I hope you enjoyed seeing something just a little different. This is another great piece of 50’s history. Stay tuned – more to come this year!

Where can I get an Ortofon MC10 cartridge for a Sony PS-X5 turntable?

Or something else that would fit? The turntable is old, hasn’t worked for awhile and I want to fix it for my dad for Christmas. The number on the cartridge is 834027.
I’m afraid to pay $200 (or $1,000) for one online and find out it doesn’t work! Please help!
It has a 30-year-old moving coil cartridge that won’t work with his amplifier. He needs a new moving coil cartridge that doesn’t require an amplifier.

RCA linear tracking turntable with infrared track detection

This 1987 RCA Dimensia MTT230 linear tracking turntable uses an infrared LED and detector on the tonearm to scan the record and find the tracks, allowing it to automatically skip back and forth between the tracks just like a CD player. The track detection works pretty well, even on dirty LPs. Similar models were made by BSR and Carrera.

1956 RCA Model #8EY4FK 45 RPM Hi-Fi Record Player

Here’s a nice item from RCA introduced in 1956 along with it’s sister, model #8EY4DJ, to replace the former Hi-Fi tabletop model #45HY4. They changed the former large tubes to miniature tubes and did away with the pilot light on the top in these models to cut costs. Of course, the models got a new facelift as well with the “TV” design disappearing. This features a 4 tube Hi-Fi amp feeding an 8″ speaker and the cartridge has been changed to a Sonotone 52T stereo ceramic cartridge bridged for mono allowing it to better track microgroove stereo records. This, like all of the RCA tabletop Hi-Fi record players, sounds magnificent w/plenty of tonal range and very good bass. I’ll have the sister model up soon on YT & then we’ll do some comparisons. Herman’s Hermits Henry the 8th 1911 Edison phonograph recording by Harry Champion

And you thought Herman’s Hermits wrote this! Well, it was actually a popular song in England from the time it was written in 1911. Some lyrics were added or changed by the time HH recorded it in 1965. This is the original two minute version, played on an Edison Standard Model A phonograph. This version lacks a couple of stanzas available on 78 RPM recordings, which are a minute longer. The title of the song was also HEN-E-RY the Eighth, not HENRY the eighth.
