Scarce VICTORY 45 RPM Record Player – Licensed RCA Model #45-EY-2 Clone – ALMOST!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF MY YouTube FRIENDS!! Here’s a fantastic piece from 1956! This model is called a “VICTORY” and there are NO model number markings anywhere. Based on my research, they didn’t have a model number. This is basically an RCA #45-EY-2 clone except the changer is a hammertone gray color w/maroon colored script, tonearm & selector. The amplifier is the standard 3-tube RCA amp. These are quite scarce and don’t often show up for sale. This one has (of course!) been 100% restored including new rubber throughout, new caps, 89T Astatic cartridge, cleaned-lubed-adjusted to perfection! I hope you enjoyed seeing something just a little different. This is another great piece of 50’s history. Stay tuned – more to come this year!

1956 RCA Model #8EY4FK 45 RPM Hi-Fi Record Player

Here’s a nice item from RCA introduced in 1956 along with it’s sister, model #8EY4DJ, to replace the former Hi-Fi tabletop model #45HY4. They changed the former large tubes to miniature tubes and did away with the pilot light on the top in these models to cut costs. Of course, the models got a new facelift as well with the “TV” design disappearing. This features a 4 tube Hi-Fi amp feeding an 8″ speaker and the cartridge has been changed to a Sonotone 52T stereo ceramic cartridge bridged for mono allowing it to better track microgroove stereo records. This, like all of the RCA tabletop Hi-Fi record players, sounds magnificent w/plenty of tonal range and very good bass. I’ll have the sister model up soon on YT & then we’ll do some comparisons. I hope you enjoy this video. It’s a great piece of 50’s history! Stay tuned as there’s yet more to come!

Best speakers to enhance the sound of my record player?

Hello All,

I have a record player that already has built in speakers, but they do not sound that good. My record player has audio input and output holes so I can plug in external speakers. What is the best kind to buy? NO SOUND SYSTEM SUGGESTIONS PLEASE. I just want a speaker or two that will plug into my record player and sit next to it on my stand. I prefer something small, but with great sound quality. I would like to spend around $40.

You probably need powered speakers for that unit – a pair of computer speakers will work if you get an adapter.

GE SHOW N’ TELL RECORD PLAYER WITH AM RADIO – WINNIE THE POOH

This is a General Electric Show N’ Tell record player circa late 1960’s. This was a great entertainment and learning toy that kept us baby boomers immersed in technology during the pre-ipod era. It resembled a television set, but had a record player on the top. Records and slides were sold for it in combination. The slide strip, which was a flat plastic key 8 inches long containing a strip of 16mm color film, was inserted into the top of the device. As the record played (typically telling a story), the slide strip, through which the images were projected on the screen, would automatically advance to illustrate it. The mechanism by which the slide advanced was purely mechanical, and was based on the rotation of the turntable, so proper operation required manually spinning it a few revolutions before beginning the presentation.

It also functioned as a standard record player, able to play 16, 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM records through its built-in speaker.

DEAN 16/45 RPM Record Player/VM Record Changer Similar to RCA Players

This is a DEAN player using a Voice Of Music 2-speed changer (16/45) and is similar to RCA players of the same time frame. Unlike the RCA players that used the RP-190 mechanism made by Crescent, this player features auto-off after it finishes playing all of the records. It’s unfortunate RCA didn’t do the same thing. The playing arm feels for another record after finishing the previous play. If it detects a record, it drops it and plays it – if it doesn’t detect another record in line for play, it returns to the neutral position and shuts the player off. Obviously, this was a smarter move on the part of VM. This player mechanism was used in a few different manufacturers – DEAN, DECCA, ARVIN are just a few that come to mind. They are much sought after today and this particular name brand (DEAN) is not very common. I hope you enjoy this fascinating piece of 50’s history!
