1946 RCA Model #6J 78 RPM Record Player Attachment In Action!

Here’s a pretty cool 78 RPM attachment built in 1946 by RCA. It has a pretty nice art-deco look and is an attachment only – no built-in amplifier. It has a fan cooled motor which has been cleaned & lubed and the low riding crystal cartridge which has long since dried up has been replaced with a Sonotone 52T ceramic stereo cartridge bridged for mono and is using a 3 mil sapphire needle for play. This is a departure from my 45 players but came in a lot of items I bought in the last week. This one was in near new condx w/box & instructions so it warranted being restored & played again! Later on I’ll post a video of the amplified version of this player as I find the time to restore it. Stay tuned – more to come!!

1957 RCA VICTOR ORTHOPHONIC HIGH FIDELITY RECORD PLAYER

Sweet 1957 RCA Victor “ORTHOPHONIC HIGH FIDELITY” record player in dark mahogany finish. Just got this today from my friend Tony. I cleaned her up, lubricated the changer, and buffed out the wood case with high gloss polish. Look at how beautiful she is! Also added a fresh Astatic 89T powerpoint cartridge with diamond stereo compatible needle. Just listen to the clarity of the highs and that deep base, especially when the lid is closed. Beautiful room-filling sound that the Orthophonic is so famous for!

diaphram made of thick plastic glued to pvc slice with a sewing needle going through. eraser attached to the top to prevent extra needle noise. not sure why the video is so dark so i put the on the heat vision effect on. hahaha

How to clean a record player’s needle – do i need to buy anything to clean it?

My record player is basically like this one only less digitalised, i’d like to know how to clean the needle but do i need to buy any solutions etc, my parents (who have owned player’s in the past) told me just to blow the dust off the needle but i think it might now clean it properly.
