1910 Edison AMBEROLA 1A Phonograph Playing “Where Did You Get That Girl?” Billy Murray

Here is my 1910 Edison Amberola model 1A phonograph with early Lyre grille playing one of my favorite Billy Murray cylinders, “Where Did You Get That Girl?”. This phonograph is 100% original including the leather drive belt and all three of the reproducers: the dual stylus model M which can play either a 2 minute cylinder or a 4 minute cylinder with a turn of its dial switch, the 4 minute model L which was designed to play the 4 minute Edison Amberol wax cylinders and the 4 minute diamond stylus model A which was designed to play celluloid (Indestructible and Blue Amberol) cylinders. If I had to keep just one cylinder phonograph from my collection it would be this one as it can play almost any cylinder ever produced and it plays beautifully. With the lid closed you experience none of the motor or drive train noises that are found with external horn phonographs – including the needlessly glorified Edison Opera model. Herman’s Hermits Henry the 8th 1911 Edison phonograph recording by Harry Champion

And you thought Herman’s Hermits wrote this! Well, it was actually a popular song in England from the time it was written in 1911. Some lyrics were added or changed by the time HH recorded it in 1965. This is the original two minute version, played on an Edison Standard Model A phonograph. This version lacks a couple of stanzas available on 78 RPM recordings, which are a minute longer. The title of the song was also HEN-E-RY the Eighth, not HENRY the eighth.

Edison Disc Phonograph Model A-250 Plays “Black & White Rag” by Edison’s Brass Orchestra 1913

Here is Edison’s first Model Disc phonograph (Model A-250) from 1913 Playing “Black & White Rag” Composed by George Botsford from the same year. Edison’s Disc records were 1/4″ thick and played at 80 RPM’s. The Discs were Hill & Dale or Vertical Groove recordings and the Reproducer head had a permanent diamond Stylus that never need changing.
